🧵 Some of You Will Know Me as a Bag Maker…
As many of you are discovering Bobbin & Spool for the first time, I wanted to reintroduce myself and share how this small creative business came to be. From my work as a cardiac nurse to life in my garden studio, this is a story about finding balance, creativity, and meaning - and how every handmade bag I sew is designed to bring the same feeling to you.
From the Hospital Clinic to the Workbench
It’s that time of year again when the hospital gets busier - the colder weather brings an increase in people experiencing chest pain or shortness of breath. As a cardiac nurse, I spend the first part of my week listening, assessing, and helping people through uncertain moments.
It’s a role that demands focus and empathy - and it’s taught me how important it is to slow down, pay attention, and make every action meaningful. Those same values find their way into everything I create at Bobbin & Spool.
Where craftsmanship and care meet - two worlds stitched together.
How Bobbin & Spool Was Born
When I’m not nursing, you’ll find me in my little garden studio in Downton, surrounded by colour and texture. Sewing began as an escape - a way to reconnect with creativity and purpose - but soon it became something deeper: a chance to share joy, craftsmanship, and confidence with others.
Bobbin & Spool allows me to create thoughtfully and spend my time in a way that aligns with my values. Each bag I make is both beautiful and practical, designed to bring a little calm, confidence, and delight into your everyday routine.
The heart of Bobbin & Spool - a place for creativity, calm, and purposeful making.

Market Days and Meaningful Moments
After a wonderful day at Romsey Makers Market, I’m still smiling at all the creativity that flowed through the Design a Bag corner. It was such a joy helping you choose fabrics and ideas that reflected your personal style.
Some of you were already thinking ahead to the perfect gift for your mum or sister - weighing up her favourite colours or whether she might prefer a floral or a stripe. These conversations remind me how much meaning a handcrafted piece can hold.
I’ll be bringing more fabric choices to the next market in Ringwood, on the 18th October - if you’d like to rummage and choose a bespoke design for someone special.

Taking Time to Reflect
Being at the market - away from housework and business admin, gave me a moment to pause and reflect on how far this journey has come. From those early days of rediscovering sewing to now meeting so many of you in person, I’m deeply grateful for every conversation, every custom order, and every story shared.
Pausing to appreciate the journey - from small beginnings to shared moments of joy.
A Bag That’s Uniquely Yours
The Botanica Tote Bag has quickly become one of the designs so many of you are drawn to at the stall. With its classic shape, beautifully placed front pocket, and carefully considered extras, it’s a stylish everyday bag that stands apart from so many others.
Indeed, Tsveta, who purchased one recently, summed it up perfectly in her kind review:
“I love my Botanica tote bag - it’s light, comfortable and so versatile. I can fit so much in it and it’s still not bulky. I wear it to work, at the weekends, and simply can’t get enough of it.”
If you’re dreaming of a bag that feels uniquely yours, or would like to design something bespoke, now’s the perfect time to start your custom order ready for Christmas.
